Why I am Walking in aid of the Alzheimer's Society
In 2004 my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and the Alzheimer's Society has given support and allowed my family to come to terms with living with the disease.

When the diagnosis came in 2004, my mother bravely faced the reality that she would need to take care of my father full-time. She has some close support from my brother who still lives in Scarborough but since we live in Northamptonshire we can only provide support from a distance.
About 2 years ago my mother made contact with the Scarborough Branch of the Alzheimer's Society to try and learn more about living with the disease and to meet other people in a similar situation. The has proven to be a very valuable service and the regular meetings give my mother a short break and allows her to relax and discuss issues with other carers.
I firmly believe that this charity provides a valuable service through its branches as well as through the research it funds. My Coast to Coast walk will therefore be raising sponsorship in aid of this society with 25% of all funds raised being allocated to the Scarborough Branch. The remainder of any money raised will be allocated to the main society to be used to support their valuable work.
